Internet Explorer 9 nears 4% share on Windows 7, IE6 extinction countdown picks up steam

Microsoft has shared some news about the state of its most and least loved Web browsers -- Internet Explorer 9 and 6, respectively. Even with IE9 only recently exiting beta, Microsoft reports that 3.6% of Windows 7 users are now running the new browser (no mention of Vista... what's with that?). The post also reveals that the adoption rate is almost five times what IE8 garnered in the early going.

It's also interesting to note that there are now more than 1,000 sites utilizing Internet Explorer 9's Windows 7 integration features -- like the new desktop notification support we showed you in Hotmail.

But perhaps the best news of all is that Microsoft's IE6countdown.com now has more than 400 partners and is generating nearly two million pageviews per month, helping to lure users away from the woefully out-of-date browser. Can the end come soon enough, DS readers?

Save Gotham City in Lego Batman: DC Super Heroes for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

The DC Comics universe has come together on iOS in the newly released Lego Batman: DC Super Heroes, now available in the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The iOS version is based on the 2012 videogame of the same name, and brings the same great experience to the touchscreen.

The Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder are joined in their quest to save Gotham City this time by a bunch of other characters from the DC universe. Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, all join the fight against the likes of Lex Luthor, The Joker, Harley Quinn and The Riddler. All in all 80 different playable characters are available either by way of in-app purchases or by playing through the games numerous levels. The control system comes with a 'classic' and a 'touchscreen' mode, and it's a pretty fine playing experience in the touchscreen environment.

The Lego series of games offers a lighter side to many different franchises, and Batman is no different. There's just something about playing it Lego form that makes beating on the bad guys less violent. We've only been playing it a short time, but if you're into comic books, super heroes, or just like great looking, great playing mobile games, you'll want to take a look at this. It's a huge download, but if you give it a try be sure to jump into the comments and let us know what you think.

Kaspersky founder warns nations face growing cyberattack threats

State-of-the-art cyberweapons are now powerful enough to severely disrupt nations and the organizations responsible for their critical infrastructure, Kaspersky Lab founder and CEO Eugene Kaspersky says.

The comments were made in a recent speech to a select audience of UK police, politicians and CSOs.

That Kaspersky was invited to give the speech to such a high-level gathering is a clear signal that the British government takes the threat posed by cyber-weapons seriously.

"Today, sophisticated malicious programs - cyberweapons - have the power to disable companies, cripple governments and bring whole nations to their knees by attacking critical infrastructure in sectors such as communications, finance, transportation and utilities. The consequences for human populations could, as a result, be literally catastrophic," said Kaspersky.

Uncover gives your MacBook's lid a new, Apple-less kind of glow

Etsy stickers adorning your MacBook's lid, oft making a cute play on the presence of that glowing Apple? That's so 2012. Uncover, a Dutch company showcasing its talents here at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam this week, has crafted a new method of customizing one's MacBook lid. And, perhaps most importantly, it involves the seamless removal of the Apple logo altogether. In essence, these guys use a specialized laser cutting process that can etch out anything your brain can muster -- from band logos to company mantras. And, as you'll see in the gallery below, the Apple logo doesn't have to be a part of the equation.

The outfit will take in any aluminum-faced MacBook from around the world, and once it lands in Holland, you'll typically see it headed back to your domicile within four to five days. If you're selecting one of Uncover's designs, you can have your machine tweaked for as little as €249 (around $325), while completely custom work starts at €599 ($780). (And yes, you can just buy a totally new Mac from Uncover as well.) We spoke to Jasper Middendorp, the company's CEO, and he confessed that only MacBooks are being accepted due to Apple's unique backlighting arrangement. They're obviously keen to offer similar work for PCs, but to date, every one he has seen blocks or covers the backlight in some way. For those looking to get it on the fun, allow the source link below to be your guide.
