Verizon hosting 4G LTE news conference tomorrow to discuss launch plans

Guess what people, Verizon's LTE network launch is really for real and the carrier has now scheduled a news conference for tomorrow where it'll discuss its December plans in more detail. Tony Melone, VZW's chief tech officer, will be on hand to answer any questions beyond the already known plans for 38 metropolitan areas to get the 4G LTE treatment -- accounting for a cool 110 million Americans who'll be able to ride the lightning of faster internet speeds on the move. The event kicks off at 12PM and we'll make sure to tune in, if only to find out what Tony's answer is to the inevitable "what is 4G" question.

[Thanks, Henry]

Garden Gnome Carnage is a hectic, Christmas-themed Time-Waster

gardengnomecarnage

Ahh, the spirit of Christmas! Not that I would know anything about that, actually... But if Christmas is your thing, you might enjoy Garden Gnome Carnage. Or actually, even if it's not your thing, but you just enjoy the concept of brutally flinging tiny, merry garden gnomes all over the screen to the sound of hectic 8-bit music, this may be for you.

You're dangling off of a building's chimney. The gnomes are storming the building, trying to get up to the chimney and spread the good cheer of Christmas. Your goal is to keep them from getting there. You do this by moving the building from side to side (don't ask me why the building moves, but it's got wheels!).

As you move the building, you dangle to and fro, hitting any gnomes that are unfortunate enough to be in your trajectory. If you hit them extra hard, you get points. The whole thing rapidly devolves into a hectic gnome-throwing fest, and when you add the air strikes that you can call by hitting Space, well, ... you get the picture!

Apple Predictions for 2010: iPhone on Multiple Carriers, iSlate, Beatles

Apple experienced a strong 2009 despite the recession but may make substantial changes to its product lines and strategy in 2010 in order to counter direct competition from Google, Microsoft and other players. Those strategies could include opening the iPhone to multiple carriers, introducing an iPod Touch with a camera, expanding its retail footprint, releasing the long-rumored tablet PC, imposing increased regulation on the App Store, and even introducing the Beatles catalog to iTunes. - In contrast to many tech companies dampened down by the recession, Apple
experienced rising revenue and profits throughout 2009, buoyed by strong sales
of its various product lines. But those sorts of shareholder-heartening numbers
rely on a constant base of innovation, and Apple will likely need...
